The No-Heat Thirty-Day Challenge

Ever heard that heat styling super-dries out your hair and contributes to split ends and brittle hair? Follow me on my thirty day journey as I avoid all forms of heat styling.

I'm curious to find out whether heat styling does indeed affect your hair, and if avoiding it makes your hair stronger. This is what my hair looks like now, having washed and set it last night and allowing it to air dry.

I had it highlighted over Christmas, and as it grows out, I expect the shaft of my hair to get dryer, as it would with an all-over colour, and I am trying to avoid the brittleness that accompanies growing out permanent colour. I will do a post on what else I am doing to combat the expected breakage at a later time.

Join me in this no heat challenge and see what effect it will have on your head of hair! I'll be doing updates every five days and keep you guys in the loop. At the end of the thirty days I will do a vlog on youtube  discussing my experience.

Post-Workout Skin Care

Sweating in the summer heat can lead to clogged pores so its super important to give skin the proper care after your work out to prevent blemishes and black heads. I've narrowed it down to five easy steps that even the sorest muscles can pull off after a serious work out:

Step 1

Rinse your face and neck with warm water thoroughly

Step 2 image home

Lightly exfoliate using a scrublet, or wash cloth to get rid of any crystallized salt in the pores

Step 3 image home

Wash with a face wash that contains salicylic acid

Step 4

Swipe witch hazel or an astringent across your entire face and neck, include your ears and your hairline

Step 5 image home
Thoroughly dry your face and apply a lightweight moisturizer.

And you're done!!!

Easy Oily Skin Fixes

Every time I have a discussion with someone about skincare or makeup, they always ask about how to keep oily skin at bay. While dewiness is desirable, many persons, especially here in the tropics, find that by midday, their faces are super shiny and greasy.

So I figured that I would share with you my tips for keeping oily skin at bay, that have worked especially well with the Tropical Sun.
  1.  Witch Hazel: this old school remedy still does the trick. It zaps up excess oil and dirt and unclogs the pores. This is available in most pharmacies, I have seen it most recently in Lee's Pharmacy, Discount Pharmacy and York Pharmacy. Simply apply to a cotton ball or pad and swipe over skin twice daily.

2. Grease Paper: originally for baking, this is a cheap alternative to blotting sheets. Buy a roll from your        supermarket and cut into pieces about 3inches by 3inches and store in a zip lock to carry around with you. Use it to dab at your oilier areas throughout the day. (Can be used over makeup)
3.Brown Paper bags: cut this up as you would the grease paper and use to blot to control excess oil. (Can be used over makeup)
 4. Tea Tree Oil: yes, I am suggesting an oil to cut oil. If you apply this to your face at night before bed and after cleansing, it will provide moisture, balance the pH in your skin, unclog your pores, help shrink zits and pimples and zap excess oil by morning. Over time you will see the healthy difference in your skin.
 5. Baking Soda Mask: this can be used as an at-home once a week treatment to help control oil production and balance the oils in your pores. I will do a post on how to make your own baking soda mask at home if you would like.

That's all folks!
